FBLA Canned Food Drive

I just wanted to say thank you again for all of the canned food donations that were brought in this past week.  I am so overwhelmed with the success of this project and I know that we couldn't have done it without the help of all of the homeroom teachers that encouraged kids to participate whether it was for the prizes or to help those in need. The end result was that we donated more than 4 truckloads of canned food items and one car load to FBC in Clever.

My final tally was 2,869 items donated district-wide!

Thank you again to everyone who participated!

ELA Research Papers Round 1

Hey everyone,

I wanted to send a quick note talking about our first round of research papers.  Students have been working hard on their research, and most turned in their rough drafts on time.  Rough drafts were due on Friday, September 23.

I will hand back all graded papers on Monday, September 26 so students can begin working on their final drafts.  All final drafts will be due on Monday, October 3rd.

Any papers not turned in, whether rough or final, will be counted as zeros until turned in and graded.  No student may work on the final draft without having turned in a rough draft first.

You may want to check with your student to find out the status of their current paper situation.

Thank you,
Ms. Kuhl

Diggin' Up Gold & EleMiddle Night @ HS Volleyball game

September 29: Diggin Up Gold and EleMiddle Night at the Volleyball game.  Game time:  6:00.
September is childhood cancer awareness month, so in honor of this, we're hosting a Going Gold night on Thursday, September 29th during the High school volleyball game! We'll have food and desserts (bake sale items) and a silent auction going on in the HS commons area. We will also have a chance for you to win prizes by "buying" a VB player that night to serve for you during a heated competition in between games!  This event is in honor of Lane Mendenhall (5th grader and son of our Para and bus driver, Sam Mendenhall).  Come out and support Lane and Clever Lady Jay Volleyball.  If  you haven't been to a volleyball match yet this year, you are in for a real treat!    Preschool- 8th grade students get in FREE and parents get 1/2 price admission ($1.50 ea.)

New Year in 7th Grade!

Welcome back to an exciting year at Clever Elemiddle!  I'm super excited to work with all of your 7th grade students and get to know each and every one of them.

We are off to a great start already this year.  We have worked with figurative language so far, and now we are focusing on poetry.  Students are writing poems this week to analyze.  It's been a challenging task, but I'm liking what I am hearing from your students.

Next week we will be starting our first research project.  Students will pick from five research topics and gather information on the topic of their choosing.  This is a 3-week unit, so students will have plenty of time to work in class.  However, if they do not use time wisely, so may be working on gathering information, writing, or re-writing at home for homework.

Good things are already happening, and I look forward to seeing what else we can accomplish!

Ms. Kuhl
